Has been in service since 1994, now change over into new owners after the passing off the previous owner who had a goal to change ambulance services in w.a
Occupational First Aiders with Ambulance Insignia.
There are major concerns when a Ambulance Service believes it can pawn of OFA as Ambulance Officers. The National Training and education department requires the bare minium qualficiations for paid staff in the Ambulance Service
Patient Transport Officers - Cert III in Patient Transport Ambulance Officers (Entry Level) - Cert IIII in Basic Emergency Care Paramedics(Entry Level) - Diploma of Paramedical Science or Degree
All of which require Mandatory Clinical Practices Hours. Refershers & Ongoing Training
It is sad to see a Rockingham Ambulance Service known as ALAS breaking the rules. Can a OFA really do a paid Ambulance Officer Job?. Can they really get the neccessary training from a 3 day course?. No they cannot. The Union should be notified on the issue? A new Ambulance Officer at SJA has to do 1 year of theory at a local university + 12 week practical course before being put on the road.
Who here disagrees with this fraudulent display of rank of Ambulance Officers (with only OFA training) by this service. Is there anyway to stop this direct violation and disregard for patient care.?
Medic one should not be associating themselves with this service. All I can think is money is being exchanged under the table.
However a service that thinks 3 weeks training is sufficent to be certified as a Paramedic is one that has no professionalism and ethics. Money making scam!!
Has anyone done this course. Please let use know if you think its sufficient to be classed as title Paramedic. Can we really absorb 3yrs of education / clinical practium / experience into 3 weeks.
WA needs a National Register or Tow Truck Ambulance Services like ALAS can getaway with Malpractice.
One ALAS employee was telling me the conditions are awful. They rarley have equipment, staff are not trained, ambulances are poor, little to no equipment.
Employee retention and Moral is low. X High ranking paramdics that have worked for them have said never again. Some one is going to get killed. If there own employees are saying this then this is a cause for concern.
ALAS have also been involved in many dropping of patients incidents. This is due to poor training on strecher skills.
It is common knowledge that ED staff have witnessed this. Most of these patients are injured and some have refused to go with them due to incompetance.
Cert IV course is 4 Weeks external plus 2 Weeks Class room (Standard is 12 months) Diploma Paramedical Science is 6 Months external and up to 6 weeks classroom (Standard is 2 years)
It is JUST a money making gimmick, MedicOne would be held liable for any student they just passed and you could also sue them for your money back ;) for failing to train you properly check out the terms and conditions.
How can you be a qualified paramedic after 6 months personal study and 6 weeks in the class room.
Clinical hours should be 400 at LEAST.
I know that a Cert IV Provider will be offering there course in W.A soon.
There "Intensive Care Paramedic Course" is only for state based services (lets hope they dont offer it to ALAS seems though there not state based.)
They have aslo been caught by Rockingham staff, Not putting ECG leads on Cardiovascular Accident Patients, Neck Braces for Spinal Patients. There Ambulances are backyard built. Have you seen them. They are shocking, bashed up and messy. Ambulances should be built and refurbished by authorised providers.
So how does the W.A Health Department allow ALAS to get away with this.
1) Ambulances that have not been engineered checked (VW Series) 2) Changing PCR records or destroying them and re writing them (Illegal) 3) Paul the office manager lying about a speeding ticket so the owner off alas can get out of her speeding fine (said she was on an emergency call but not)
Sounds like a DODGY service and now only running crews monring and afternoon.
We also ask to why calls or emails are not returned ?
Makes you wonder if Medic One Training can be trusted seems though there all working together.
It amazes me that our the ALAS thread was shut down on the radio scanners forum. After corruption & poor patient care practice was exposed.. Seems to me someone is trying to silence the truth..
Well hopefully colate all true and correct information for my "File" and i will be presenting this to ALAS in person and see what they say. Along with a couple of authority figures i might add :)
Good to see concern with the "service". I know that there are no paramedics(qualified) there so who is the bankruptcy leak. Change is slow in WA but national registration can and will assist in safeguarding all patients/clients from the many forms of malpractice utilised by ALAS. Keep up the vigilance
Just an update as the ALAS thread on warsug is closed.
ALAS have had a few incidents that have occured and been swepted under the carpet or have not been brought to the attention off the public. So just to make them clear here we go.
* Using First aid staff to transport & attend to cardiac patients from Peel Health Service. * Giving the patient the wrong drug and the wrong dose from Bunbury to Perth (via a stop over at peel) with no drugs on board the daughter had to drive them down to the crew. * Having "pretend" Paramedics on board or failing to prove being qualified. * Kicking the window off a cat in and hitting a patient in the head. * The owner "rewriting" case sheets once the patient has been delivered to the hospital to show it went via a paramedic crew. * Dropping a patient on the stretcher at RPH and then denying the patient was transported by themselves. * Reported case off a resus gone wrong No cpr/defib/drugs for the patient * Repeated case's of taking patients into RKDH from mvas are placing them in chairs in the waiting room. * No protocols/OH&S Measures/Induction Training * Telling there training facility "MedicOne" to fail certain staff members just to collect the cash or make it hard for them to become qualified. * Paying BELOW award wages for both driver/attendant. * Giving kickbacks to hospital staff for transfers (now stopped after one person was reprimanded) * Swindling away company cash....shareholders upset both legal action pending.

**please feel free too add onto this**
*This info is based on first hand reports from ex alas staff and is subject to verifaction, so all here say untill proven otherwise.*
Well ALAS will sink themselves. They are fools if they think Department of Health does not get reports from ED staff about the lack of patient care delivered to patients. Also SJA is watching them very closely as are other practicing professionals..
* The VW ambulances do meet the required standards and never have. * Expecting a mutiny at ALAS a birdy told me. * With $150 cheap rates no wonder peel use them without no care for the patient
Please take care not to tar all ALAS with the lack of professionalism shown by the management. I left because of the lack of protocols and several other dodgy factors but know at least one other person there that does do a professional job for any patients that pass through her hands. Some cannot leave on moral high ground for fiscal reasons
well said musky. ALAS have always had a proportion of qualified and experienced staff but by the sounds of it, its the upper management that arent qualified nor have the incling to look after their staff. SHAME on them for bringing a company that had a future down like that for the sake of greed.
Greed the oldest sin!! or was that prostitution? Not much difference really!!!!! Hi , in the interests of education can we discuss(in broad, confidential terms) some medical signs and symptoms to get the old grey matter ticking? I was recently on an American EMS site where just this was occuring and it seemed to me to be a good idea to stop myopic diagnoses. Your thoughts?
So we all know that under this new management things have gone to ****.
Lynda is SLIPPERY and im going to bet a carton that she walks off without a scratch and those who have supported her through the dodgy **** she has done deserve to go down with her. (IF this happens then i can guarentee i will make sure the CCC knows about the pay off's for a start) some people in the health dept can be too blame for allowing it to go on and "ignore it"
The damage she has done to ALAS would either need them to get a name change udner new management ;) OR alot of bloody good PR work to bring it up to how peter had it.
Unfortunately the good staff left will get caught in the middle and your right not all alas staff are bad just mainly the 2 and the down right stupid practices that they undertake.
Im sure TT would love to do a storey on this now "dodgy" service, sja now dont see alas as a threat and i wonder why shes destroying it herself along with paul.
And to clear things up unless she can provide proof off the following the health department are "Not" bringing in any form off only policy that states only "St John Ambulance + Advance Life Ambulance" are the only emergency ambulance providers....SJA would have that stamped out straight away.

ALAS are still going through the courts, no real updates available or any outcomes available.
As no offical complaints have been made by previous staff relating back too poor management/clinical practices to the relevant departments. So once again its the if you "didnt document it" it never happened as here say does not stand up in court.
I suggest if you have a problem and have proof that ALAS had poor management/clinical practices then please provide proof and report it ASAP, information is also being fed back to ALAS from WARSUG messages.
There could be class action pending against ALAS for money owed for wages...
